  • 1 Performance!

In 4 weeks you’ll learn how to transform and tell your stories of loneliness in a supportive environment that’s — well — not lonely.

Before class begins we’ll have a private one on one session to talk about any story ideas, fears, excitements, your focus for class, etc. Students love this part. Everyone enters class feeling warm.

How do you manage your gooey guts so you can start talking about loneliness? I have your answer… by telling and sharing stories.

I am right here ready to show you how to buddy up to loneliness through the art of storytelling. I can help you get curious about and connected to the very thing that can cause us to feel disconnected. Whoa.

This is a cozy workshop. 4 students max. Includes 2 private one on one sessions and email support. And an (optional) friends and family performance! Students in the last round LOVED have a private session before class started. Truly creates a welcome entry.

EARLY BIRD sign up before January 22nd and get $200 off PLUS an additional private one hour session! [Payment options available! Email me: frayn@backfencepdx.com]

“I was able to push through my anxieties to give a presentation with both humor and vulnerability (heart). Her coaching helped me generate insight and fresh ideas, and allowed me to deliver a presentation I received enthusiastic feedback from and could look back and be proud of.” — JEN WICK. Loneliness is a hub for a variety of outcomes — like the center of a wheel with many spokes: a cosmic joke, deeper connection, spiraling sadness, surprise revelations, shame, a feeling to resist at all costs, a feeling to embrace at all costs. And, when faced head on, loneliness reveals profound wisdom about our own lives.

Joining this sweet small group workshop is a great place to explore how you uniquely define and experience loneliness. Then learn the structure to tell your story in a way that might just inspire others to be curious about their own ecosystem of loneliness, too.

I’ll show you how to share your story so you can help yourself and others feel less alone in loneliness and change lives one story at a time.

In this Let’s Get Lonely boutique workshop and two private one on one sessions with me, BACKFENCE PDX Executive Producer and Host Frayn. Through classwork you will learn how shaping and sharing stories can give them new meaning and release them from your overburdened mind and into the wind.

How, you ask? I’ll teach you how to construct a 5-minute personal story around the theme of loneliness and the tools to deliver it to one friend or an audience of many.

This will not be a maudlin class, I promise. Though we’ll go deep we’ll also get messy and laugh.

Who should take this??

  • People who have sat on the urge to tell a story, but never have… until now because this workshop has warm water entry access.

  • Experienced performers/storytellers (standups, speakers, poets, podcasters, VO artists, actors, office clown) who have felt that unreachable itch that says there is something more they can click into to bring their work to a new place.

  • Hosts (podcasters, webinar leaders, emcees, band frontman) who want to find more ease with their words and truly connect with their co-performer(s) and/or audience.

  • People who pitch things ( writers, scientists, startups, inventors) who understand that finding the emotional arc is key to landing their words and project buy-in.

  • Writers (memoirists, poets, copywriters) looking to find new access to their lived experiences and imaginations.

  • Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers and basically anyone with LEGO figurine representation who wants to learn a little more about connecting to themselves and others.

Here’s everything that’s included in your class:

  • 4 two hour workshops led during the months of FEB where you’ll receive maximum support

  • Email support

  • Two private one-hour sessions. (Three with early bird special!)

  • The first private session takes place before the first group class. We’ll dig in and explore your stories of loneliness, isolation (not necessarily the same thing), and different ways to access and tell those stories.

  • During your second private session, we’ll work together to get your story in final shape and work on performance before the final session.

  • Following our final class, I will emcee an event where participants present (optional) their stories to an uber supportive audience of friends and family. This will take place over ZOOOMMMM.

“Frayn understands audiences. She understands stories. She understands connecting stories with audiences, both on a psychological level and just in a composition/writing/structural one.” – — NISHAT AKHTAR Creative Director, Instrument

Who better to talk about loneliness? Me! With a long history of comedy and storytelling, not to mention a childhood spent mostly alone in my imagination, that's led to a lifelong challenge to remain present in the moment and to, you know, feel like a real existing person.

Here’s more about me and where storytelling has led me:

  • An award-winning storyteller that has been a producer and host for The Moth.

  • Creator, host, and executive producer of the award-winning storytelling series, BACKFENCE PDX

  • Coached and produced over 350 personal stories for stage, screen, webinars, speaking events, print, retreats, interviews, conventions, and pitching sessions.

  • A published fiction and non-fiction writer.

  • Film fanatic, racket and jump roping-based athlete, skateboarding fan, and animal lover (especially cats and other people’s dogs).

Watching people light up when they begin working on their story, finding new pieces of their own puzzle is a total honor to witness. Being in the presence of people discovering how much meaning can be found in stories they have disregarded as uninteresting or boring… or rise up from the unconscious to say, “Hey, remember this!” is a true joy.

I can’t wait to watch you discover yours.
